Case Study
Video Wall
U.S. Transportation Command
Background
The U.S. Transportation Command (US TRANSCOM) is a unified, functional combatant command that provides support to the ten other U.S. combatant commands, military services, defense agencies, and other government organizations. US TRANSCOM conducts globally integrated mobility operations, leads the Joint Deployment and Distribution Enterprise, and delivers essential capabilities to project and sustain the Joint Force in alignment with national objectives. As part of an initiative to modernize its flagship auditorium, US TRANSCOM sought to install a large, high-resolution digital display system to serve as the focal point for presentations, briefings, and command operations.
The Challenge
The project faced logistical and technical constraints. Installation required careful coordination among multiple contractors working simultaneously under separate contracts (including new broadcast lighting), with a focus on avoiding extended shutdowns. This schedule was further complicated by a three-month supply chain delay from another vendor. Technically, integrating the seamless 16’x9′ direct-view LED video wall demanded precise work on power, video distribution, and control. This required the re-commissioning of existing video wall processors and modifications to the control code to ensure full system compatibility and operational continuity of the auditorium throughout the installation.
The Solution
Transource developed and executed a comprehensive plan to address these challenges. Our team installed the LED video wall, including all associated power supplies and video distribution equipment within customer-provided racks, ran and routed cable pathways to the wall, and prepared the wall surface for installation. We coordinated closely with other contractors to ensure equipment deliveries and installation activities were synchronized, limiting the auditorium shutdown to a single event. The team also re-commissioned the existing video wall processor and updated the control system program code to fully support the new video wall. By anticipating potential delays and adjusting the project schedule, we maintained the original contract timeline despite external supply chain issues.
The Result
The LED video wall was successfully installed on schedule and serves as the centerpiece of US TRANSCOM’s auditorium and headquarters. The installation enhances presentations, briefings, and command operations while demonstrating advanced digital signage capabilities for future deployments across auditoriums, lobbies, conference rooms, and operations centers at Scott Air Force Base. The project highlights our ability to manage complex technical integrations, coordinate effectively with multiple contractors, and deliver state-of-the-art audiovisual solutions within strict operational and logistical constraints.
